🎙️ EVP Tape Recorder is not a typical voice recorder. It’s a modern digital recorder designed to behave like a real analogue tape machine — unpredictable, imperfect, and full of character.
Built for EVP sessions, field recording, and experimental audio, the app deliberately avoids “perfect” digital clarity. Instead, it recreates the subtle quirks of tape recording: drift, noise, wear, and mechanical instability. The result is audio that feels organic, alive, and authentic 📼✨
This isn’t about clean sound. This is about character.
📼 A True Analogue-Style Recording Experience
EVP Tape Recorder captures uncompressed WAV audio while emulating the sound and behaviour of classic tape machines. Optional tape effects introduce realism over time — wear builds, drift creeps in, and the noise floor becomes part of the recording, just like real tape.
⏯️ Playback That Behaves Like Tape
Playback isn’t simply “digitally reversed.”
Forward and reverse playback behave physically, with variable speed, pitch-corrected audio, looping, and scrubbing. Tape wear continues during playback, meaning every listen subtly changes the recording.
🧭 Sensor-Driven Instability (Optional)
For those who want deeper realism, the app can optionally use your device’s magnetometer. Changes in the surrounding magnetic field subtly influence tape behaviour, introducing natural instability.
No sensor audio is recorded — sensors affect character, not content.
🎛️ A Visual Tape Interface
The interface is designed to feel like a real tape deck:
animated reels, visible tape movement, and transport controls built directly into the tape itself. Playback direction and progress are always clear at a glance.
📁 Simple, Purpose-Built File Management
Recordings are saved automatically as WAV files. You can review, share, or delete recordings directly from the tape interface using intuitive swipe actions — no clutter, no complexity.
👻 Who Is EVP Tape Recorder For?
EVP investigators, paranormal researchers, experimental audio users, sound designers — or anyone fascinated by analogue-style recording behaviour.
⚠️ Important Notes
EVP Tape Recorder does not claim to detect or communicate with spirits.
Sensor data is used solely to influence recording and playback behaviour.
Interpretation of recorded audio is always the responsibility of the user.
Settings
⏯️ Playback
Loop until Stop
When enabled, the current recording will keep replaying continuously until you press Stop.
Best for repeating a section while listening closely.
Speed: Slow / Normal / Fast
Changes the playback speed of the tape.
- Slow: plays back more slowly (often helps reveal quieter details)
- Normal: standard playback
- Fast: speeds through audio quickly (useful for scanning long recordings)
Speed Drift (Wow/Flutter)
Adds subtle, tape-like instability to playback speed.
- Makes playback feel less “digital perfect”
- Simulates the gentle wobble you get from real tape transport
If you want clean playback, leave it off.
Playback Wear: Off / Light / Heavy
Controls how much “tape wear” effect is applied during playback.
- Off: cleanest playback
- Light: subtle tape character
- Heavy: stronger degradation/character
(This reads as an effect amount — not permanent file damage)
🎙️ Recording
Tape FX (Degrade Recording)
When enabled, the recorder applies tape-style character while recording.
This can include things like:
- mild degradation/colouration
- tape-like instability or grit (depending on your engine)
Turn it off if you want the cleanest possible WAV capture.
Sensor Modulation (Magnetometer)
When enabled, the app uses the device magnetometer to influence tape behaviour.
- Magnetic field changes can subtly modulate the tape “character”
- No sensor audio is recorded — it only affects behaviour
